Marquage Moderne offers two printing marking techniques: screen printing and digital printing. What are the differences and advantages of each of these solutions to make the best choice ?

Screen printing

La serigraphy is a serial printing techniqueShe is recognized for her resistance over time and intense colors that can be obtained. On the other hand, the different processing stages: typon, screen exposure, printing, drying (and this for each color to be produced, one after the other) make it a long technique to implement. This is why it is more suited to serial reproduction of the same model with a number of limited “solid” color. However, it is possible to produce "four-color" prints for printing more complex visuals, thanks to "screen dot" processing. In these two cases, screen printing does not allow the printing of very fine details, due to its principle technical by "stencil" from which it takes its name, from Latin sericum silk (the screens for making stencils were originally made of silk) and Greek graphin writing.

Digital printing

THEdigital printing is, she, more quick to execute thanks to its principle of"direct printing". In addition, it offers a great graphic freedom, allowing to faithfully reproduce complex visuals and photographs, unique or different models, regardless of the number of colors automatically translated into four-color. On the other hand, digital inks are less covering and therefore more suitable for white supports to maintain the desired color rendering (and although printing in white is now possible). Also, if there is little preparatory work, the printing time will be longer with this process. Finally, the durability of the marking over time is less important. Thus, to prolong its resistance, the use of a varnish or the installation of a lamination film can be achieved.

Comparison: Screen printing VS Digital printing

While these two techniques each have advantages and disadvantages that meet different needs, they do not have the same costs! Thus, for orders in medium and large series, on identical models with a limited number of colors: the serigraphy is generally more suitable (with decreasing prices depending on the quantity) and offers better durability over time. On the contrary, the more colors there are, the higher the price.

Which is not the case with a digital printing where the cost is less impacted by the number of copies and the technical possibilities are more extensiveDigital is therefore more interesting for small to medium quantities, for complex visuals, multi-colors, varied models, or even for short or medium term marking media.

So, depending on your needs and constraints, our commercial service will rather guide you towards one or other of the solutions which cannot be substituted, even today in the all-digital age, because they present each their own interestsNow you too can make your choice!
